The Germantown Charity Horse Show has added a new class to its Saturday night schedule to honor the memory of Marilyn Lubin. The class will offer a $5,000 purse and is sponsored by Marilyn’s husband, Nathan.
The Marilyn Lubin Memorial Walking Horse Team Riding Championship is open to any flat-shod horse that has qualified by showing in an under saddle class in any of these divisions: All Day Pleasure, Classic Park Pleasure, Country Pleasure, Lite Shod, or Trail Pleasure. One team rider will show the first way and the second rider will show on the reverse. Teams can consist of any combination of professional trainers, amateur and youth riders (youth riders cannot ride stallions). Horses may be shown in either English or Western tack/attire, but not a combination of both.
Marilyn Davis Lubin was born in Milan, Tennessee and grew up loving horses from childhood. At a young age, Marilyn was committed to learning to ride and continued that through her entire life. Her passion for horses was rekindled later in life when she and her husband, Nathan Lubin, moved near Shelby Farms to build a house in which they could live with their horses. Marilyn’s focus was training and showing Tennessee Walking horses and over the years participated in and won many shows with her Tennessee Walking show horses, Cash and Grey Eagle. Although Marilyn was taken from us way before her time, her horses are exercised regularly by her grandchildren who continue her love for Tennessee Walking horses.
The Germantown Charity Horse Show is one of the most prestigious multi-breed shows in the nation, and one of the few shows designated by the United States Equestrian Federation as a “Heritage Competition.” Classes are offered for American Saddlebreds, Carriage Driving, Gypsy Vanners, Hunters, Jumpers, Paso Finos, Racking Horses and Tennessee Walking Horses. Now in its 70th year, the show gives out over $200,000 in prizes and awards and has raised over one-half-million dollars for the Kindred Place since 1999.
